caldx: calibrate dx zeropoint

"caldx" is a program to calibrate the "DX" zero setting on the KappaCCD by analysis of identical images of an AMBI crystal made at different dx settings.

Usage

"caldx" is invoked like:

   caldx [options] [make] [filenames]

Without any argument, the "caldx" program will analyze any images named "dxcal01f.kcd" through "dxcal99f.kcd" in the current directory. With the argument "make" it will try to make 5 images with names like this first.

The program can be made to study any series of images by specifying their file names on the command line. They should be images that only differ in their crystal to detector distance, all other conditions should be exactly equal.

By studying the magnification ratio between the different images, the absolute DX zero is determined, and if it is significantly offset, the program will print instructions on how to re-calibrate the dx on the server PC.

As options, one can give "frametime=#" and "frameangle=#" if the default appears inadequate. Please tell us if you need this, and try to figure out why...

Warnings

"caldx" requires a distortion correction to run. If the detector alignment has not yet been determined, "caldx" will write a first-guess detector alignment file "detalign.vic" to the current directory. This first guess is sufficient for caltheta to do its work during a first-time calibration.
Running "caldx" is harmless, but if mistakes are made during the actual recalibration on the server PC, the KappaCCD might be damaged.
If the offset printed by "caldx" is not absolutely reasonable, do not recalibrate the server PC, but warn your Bruker Nonius service contact instead.
It is advisable to check after a recalibration whether the result of a retest comes out correctly.
